Description
Cinnamon is a large tree in the same family as laurel, avocado and camphor. Although the leaves are aromatic, the part of the plant we use is its bark. Its name comes from the Latin “Canella” which is the diminutive of “Canna”, meaning Tube/Pipe, an allusion to the shape it assumes after being extracted from the tree. It is one of the most used spices since antiquity. Cinnamon is a strong seasoning and brings a lot of potency to dishes. It is one of the most versatile being used both in sweet dishes (such as sweet rice and hominy), even in drinks such as coffee!
